How to Source Private Label Wooden Serving Trays: Specs, MOQ, Samples and Packaging

If you are sourcing wooden serving trays under your own brand, the fastest route is a factory that already makes trays in several materials and can sample your version in days, not weeks. At Searunwood we make paulownia, acacia and bamboo trays in Cao County, Shandong, with samples in 3–7 days and bulk in 20–35 days depending on the model.

This guide covers what to compare and what to put in your RFQ: specs of four tray models we make today, material choice, customization, food-contact requirements, MOQ, lead times, packaging and shipping terms.

Who sources serving trays from a factory

  • Kitchenware and home-decor wholesalers who need a tray line in more than one size and finish.
  • Amazon private-label sellers in kitchen & dining who want FNSKU labels and FBA-ready cartons from the factory.
  • Hospitality and room-service suppliers who need a tray that can be repeated order after order.
  • Gift and DTC home brands that want a logo-engraved tray or a boxed tray set.

Roughly 40% of our orders go to North America, 40% to Western Europe and 10% to Oceania, so the questions below are the ones importers in those markets ask us most.

Four tray models compared

Model Material Size Sample Bulk
7-piece serving tray set Solid paulownia, paintless 1 large tray 46 x 30 x 4 cm; 2 medium (27 x 27 x 3 and 27 x 16 x 3 cm); 4 small plates 12.5 x 12.5 x 2 cm 5–7 days 25–35 days
12" octagonal tray Solid acacia Approx. 30 cm across, 2" walls, 0.5" thick, 3.1" cut-out handles 5–7 days 25–35 days
Bamboo ottoman tray Bamboo 16.75" x 10.25" x 2" (42.5 x 26 x 5 cm), cut-out handles, raised edge 3–5 days 20–30 days
Bamboo bed tray with folding legs Bamboo 16.3" x 11.8" (41.4 x 30 cm), four-sided raised edge, tablet/phone slot 3–5 days 20–30 days

Sample and bulk times in this table come from each product page and apply to that product only. Other trays in our Tray collection and Kitchen & Dining collection have their own lead times, listed on their pages.

Choosing a material

We work with five woods: pine, acacia, bamboo, paulownia and rubberwood. The four models above already use three of them:

  • Paulownia for the 7-piece set, which ships as a nested group of one large tray, two medium trays and four small plates.
  • Acacia for the octagonal tray and our 2-piece scalloped serving board.
  • Bamboo for the ottoman tray and the folding-leg bed tray.

If your range needs a different wood for one of these shapes, name it in the RFQ and we will quote it as a custom version. We will tell you at quotation stage if a shape is not practical in the wood you chose.

What you can customize

Our customization covers material, structure, size, color, surface finish, logo and retail packaging. For trays, buyers usually change:

  • Size and set composition — for example a 3-piece set instead of 7, or one larger tray only.
  • Structure — handle style (cut-out or metal), edge height, folding legs, device slot.
  • Finish and color — natural, stained or painted. Finishing is done in our 2,000 m² dust-free paint room.
  • Logo — laser engraving on the tray surface or underside; send a vector file and the position.
  • Packaging — retail box, printed sleeve or plain brown carton.

Food contact: write your standard into the RFQ

Serving trays touch food in most homes, and importers in different markets need different food-contact paperwork. Put the regulation or test your channel requires in your RFQ, and tell us whether it applies to the bare wood, the finish or both. We confirm what we can provide before sampling. We do not assume a standard you have not named, and we do not put any food-contact claim on a carton or listing until it has been agreed with you in writing.

MOQ and pricing

MOQ is set per product. For most of our products it starts at 100–300 pieces, with lower unit prices as quantity goes up. Give two or three quantity tiers in your RFQ so we can quote them side by side.

Samples and quality control

You approve a physical sample before bulk starts. Our 5 full-time QA/QC staff check every order against that approved sample, and we accept third-party inspection before shipment. Our factory is audited by Intertek, and we hold FSC CoC chain-of-custody certification; if you need an FSC claim on your trays, say so in the RFQ.

Factory overview video (not a tray demo). Our site in Cao County covers 19,184 m², including a 7,000 m² workshop and 3 production lines.

Packaging, nesting and shipping

Trays are bulky for their weight, so carton size matters. Sets that nest, like the 7-piece paulownia set, pack smaller than the same pieces boxed one by one. Tell us your target carton size or units per carton, and whether you need extra corner and edge protection, and we will propose the packing in the quotation.

For Amazon sellers we apply FNSKU and carton labels, pack to FBA requirements and can ship DDP to Amazon warehouses. Other trade terms are FOB Qingdao or Shanghai and CIF. We accept T/T, Alibaba Trade Assurance and L/C.

RFQ checklist

For the full sourcing process, see our guide to sourcing custom wooden products from China. If you also sell countertop items, our bamboo coffee bar organizer sourcing guide uses the same RFQ format.
